Why does Planted look like animal flesh?
As we know, we humans are creatures of habit. To have an impact on the planet, our eating habits must change. This works best with a meat-like product that can be integrated into your eating habits. This is one of the best ways to promote a plant-based diet that even stubborn meat eaters enjoy. We know that old habits are difficult to change and so we try to do our part. -
What makes Planted different from other providers?
Planted differs primarily in the following points:
- Own production in Switzerland: We are very proud to be able to produce our meat in our own production facility. This means we have full control over the entire process and can further optimize our products.
- We value a short list of ingredients
- We do not use any additives
-

If you order our meat via the online shop, the best-before date is between 14 and 20 days, depending on the product, from dispatch in a cooled state. In retail stores, see the best-before date on the packaging. -
Can you freeze Planted?
Due to possible loss of quality, we do not recommend freezing Planted. Products from the online shop are thawed or passively cooled once they are shipped. Packs in retail stores are not frozen. -
How is planted meat made?
The manufacturing process is called wet extrusion. Extrusion is a process that is used in the food industry for, among other things, peanut flips, cornflakes, spaghetti and, more recently, planted. It is central to the second generation of plant-based meat substitute products because it allows the extracted plant proteins, which have a spherical shape at the microscopic level, to be transformed into the fibrous and stretched form of animal muscle fiber proteins. By rotating two screws, the ingredients in the extruder are heated and put under pressure. At the same time, shearing forces act like those of a pasta machine. This creates a dough that is pressed through a nozzle and cooled in it. Thus, we can convert plant proteins into the fibrous structure of meat using only heat, pressure and shear. This innovative process mixes the best raw materials and selects the right parameters for our unique setup, without the need for chemical additives. -

-
What ingredients does Planted consist of?
We take innovative approaches and use a perfect process and high-quality ingredients to produce products that taste great - and without any additives. With a minimum of natural ingredients, we are setting a completely new benchmark in the category of plant-based products. We produce plant-based meat that impresses with great taste and an incredibly meaty bite. Thanks to a variety of proteins from peas, sunflowers and oats, our products are healthy for consumers and protect the environment.
All Planted meat products are 100% plant-based and made only from carefully selected natural ingredients:
-Peas, sunflowers, oats
- Rapeseed oil (sunflower oil in the planted.bratwurst)
- Water
- Vitamin B12
+ if necessary marinade natural ingredients such as salt, sugar, spices, herbs, yeast, lemon juice or other oils)
You can find the exact information on the respective ingredients and the nutritional values of the individual varieties under Products -
Are Planted products certified organic?
Our meat is not currently certified organic. Unfortunately, it is currently not possible to obtain organic plant protein raw materials in the quality and quantity that we would need to produce our meat. However, we are constantly looking for organic raw materials and evaluating them. -
Are Planted products vegan?
Planted products are 100% vegan, made from natural ingredients and are also marked with the V label. -
Are Planted products gluten free?
Our breaded products, such as planted.schnitzel, contain wheat flour and planted.pulled products use oats as an ingredient. These products are therefore not gluten-free. If you have avenin intolerance, you should also consider consuming oats.
The remaining products, such as planted.chicken or planted.kebab, do not use any gluten-containing ingredients or gluten as a binding agent during production. However, due to the manufacturing process, it cannot be completely ruled out that wheat comes into contact with the product. That's why these products come with a trace label. -
What nutritional values does Planted have?
You can find the exact information on the nutritional values of the individual products under Products
-
Do your products contain GMO?
Our raw materials are made from non-GMO plants. Our vitamin B12 is obtained through fermentation and contains no GMO. -
Where does the vitamin B12 used come from?
The vitamin B12 we use is cyanocobalamin. This is produced biotechnologically (fermentation) and is GMO-free, vegan and therefore made without animal products. It is added because it is not found in such high quantities in peas or rapeseed oil. generally found in plants. The supply of vitamin B12 is essential for a functioning metabolism and plays a key role for the blood, the nervous system and the brain. -
Why is vitamin B12 added?
Vitamin B12 is added to our meat for purely nutritional reasons. It is generally not found in such high quantities in plant-based raw materials (such as peas and rapeseed oil). We want to produce a product that is a complete meat in terms of macro and micronutrients. The aim is that people who follow a completely vegan or vegetarian diet do not have a vitamin B12 deficiency.

How is the carbon and water footprint of Planted products calculated?
The entire life cycle of our products was evaluated for the carbon footprint. To achieve this, we work with the independent institute Eaternity. This looked at our products from cradle to grave. From the cultivation and harvesting of the ingredients to the processing and transport, the energy consumption in our production facility, the storage and transport to the stores and the disposal of the packaging - everything was taken into account. These calculations are particularly important for us because they show us in which areas we can still improve and where we can best start. sustainability Eaternity -
How is biodiversity taken into account when selecting products?
The sustainable and local cultivation of our raw materials is very important to us. We use a variety of plant proteins in our products, thereby promoting diversity in the cultivation of plant proteins and enabling a balanced diet. Pea proteins and plant fibers are Planted's most important raw materials and make up the majority of our total purchased ingredients. Other sources of protein include oats and sunflower. We mainly use yellow peas as a source of protein for our products, which are mostly sourced from Western Europe. All purchased raw materials are GMO-free and are not grown in biodiversity-rich rainforest areas. -
Is Planted more sustainable compared to animal products?
Yes. Compared to conventional meat production, with Planted we emit up to 85% fewer greenhouse gases and use up to 63% less water. You can find further information about sustainability and the savings per product under Sustainability . -
How does Planted consider the circular economy?
Wherever possible, we procure raw materials using a circular economy approach in order to be able to produce even more resource-efficiently. This allows us to make an even greater contribution to a sustainable world food system with our products. In order to reduce waste and emissions, material and energy cycles are closed whenever possible and by-product streams from other value chains are made usable. For example, the pressed sunflower seeds used to produce planted.pulled are a high-quality by-product stream from sunflower oil production that unfortunately ends up on consumers' plates too rarely. This is where we come in to create an even more sustainable product with the planted.pulled. -
Are the products produced in an environmentally friendly way?
We use electricity from 100% Swiss hydropower for our production in Kemptthal (Switzerland). And to ensure that no energy is wasted, we recycle the heat generated during the production process and use it to heat our offices and other parts of the building. In order to reduce water consumption as much as possible, we have taken water saving measures throughout the company. Find out more about sustainability at Planted in our sustainability report -
How sustainable is the procurement of raw materials?
In addition to quality and safety, we attach particular importance to identifying and avoiding social and ecological risks in our supply chain. Our supplier guidelines define criteria for sustainable cooperation based on the ILO labor standards and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and describe the prevention of environmental pollution. This policy is currently being shared with our key suppliers. -
How sustainable is pea protein?
Growing yellow peas has some environmental benefits. As legumes, they are able to bind nitrogen from the atmosphere with the help of soil bacteria. This results in improved soil health and quality as the plant naturally returns nitrogen to the soil. Once harvested, the peas are processed into nutrient-dense flour, with an emphasis on an animal meat-like nutritional composition that is high in protein and low in carbohydrates. The pea fibers and proteins mostly come from Western European countries so that we can ensure quality and a short transport route to Switzerland. With our production, in contrast to traditional meat production, we skip the animal in the value chain, meaning the peas that are grown can be used directly for further processing and are not used to feed the farm animals. As a result, our value chain has lower water consumption, less land use and lower greenhouse gas emissions.

What is Planted doing about food waste?
We believe that scarce resources must be used sparingly and responsibly. That's why we continually work to optimize our production processes and avoid waste wherever possible. For example, we have introduced a project that allows us to recycle waste from our production. Such scrap occurs when our machines are not yet fully heated up or when parts of the product are damaged, for example. B. do not meet the quality requirements. With the new process we were able to reduce losses by over 90% and thus take action against food waste. -
How are planted raw materials transported?
The raw materials are transported in containers and trucks; we do not fly raw materials in. -
Where are the ingredients sourced from?
We source all of our ingredients either from Switzerland or mostly from Western European countries. In-depth information regarding our raw materials and our approach to ensuring that, in addition to the highest quality standards, social and environmental standards are also met by our suppliers can be found in our sustainability report . -
What is the packaging made of?
In retail, we have switched our packaging in Switzerland to 80% recycled PET (rPET). continue to use FSC-certified cardboard. The rPET material has a lower carbon footprint than its Counterpart made of new plastic and has already been recycled at least once. The FSC certificate ensures that the material used is controlled from managed forests. Our Cardboard packaging can be recycled in the usual way Cardboard collection will be given. -
Where are the ingredients sourced from?
The local cultivation of our raw materials is very important to us. Most of our raw materials currently come from Western Europe. Whenever possible, we try to source raw materials from Switzerland and seek close cooperation with Swiss suppliers. For example, in 2023 we sourced yellow peas from Switzerland for the first time and are conducting a research project on the use of yellow peas from Switzerland in our products. For more detailed information about our raw materials and our approach to ensuring that our suppliers adhere to the highest quality standards as well as social and environmental standards, please see our 2023 Sustainability Report.
