Planted doubles production volume in Kemptthal
Kemptthal, Switzerland, May 19, 2022 - The Swiss foodtech start-up Planted, known for alternative proteins, continues to rely on its home base in Switzerland and is investing in expanding capacity at the production site in Kemptthal. The investment enabled Planted to double its production capacity. The site will become the largest Swiss and most modern European production site for plant-based meat. Since May, Planted has been opening its doors to innovation lovers and those hungry for knowledge on selected Saturdays.
The demand for environmentally friendly food has increased rapidly, particularly in the last two years. Planted makes meat from alternative proteins, focusing on the perfect bite. Inspired by nature, the company is pioneering a novel biostructuring approach that combines protein structuring and biotechnology. Using proprietary technologies, Planted structures alternative proteins into any size and shape to achieve perfect fiber. In addition, Planted is committed to using only natural ingredients and no additives in its products. Research and production has been taking place at the Kemptthal site since 2020. The plant is constantly gaining in importance and, with the current expansion, is developing into the largest Swiss and most modern European production facility for plant-based meat.

Green technology for Kemptthal
The topic of green technology played a central role in the construction of the new plant. The site has an energy recovery system. With this system, the energy generated in the heating and cooling processes of production and room air conditioning can be reused. In the future, Planted will even be able to supply the energy that is not needed itself to the emerging district heating network of the industrial park “The Valley”, which is being developed by Mettler2Invest. This greatly reduces the energy consumption of the plant and the area and minimizes the consumption of resources. Planted proves once again that a new standard of sustainability in production can be achieved through innovation.

A look into the future
Planted is available in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France, Italy and recently also in the UK in restaurants and retailers as well as in its Europe-wide web shop. The Planted products, each consisting of different protein sources (peas, oats, sunflowers), currently include: planted.™chicken, planted.™pulled, planted.™kebab and planted.™schnitzel. Planted continues to upgrade. The company believes that biostructured proteins will beat animal meat in the future in terms of taste, sustainability, health, productivity and price. Further office buildings and research laboratories are already in the works at the Kemptthal location.
